Gigotron had its first Gig Giveaway contest last week, giving away 2 free tickets to the My Bloody Valentine Show in Santa Monica October 2nd. Tim Wager was the lucky and very excited winner.
Here’s what he had to say about the show:
That a My Bloody Valentine show is an assault on the listeners’ senses (auditory - “so loud!” - and visual - “so bright!”) is obvious. Not as obvious is what came to me last night as I sat pinned to my seat at the back of the Santa Monica Civic Center during the fifteen-minute noise rumble break in their finale, “You Made Me
Realise.”
My Bloody Valentine do not play such overwhelmingly loud music and noise because they want to challenge or destroy us, their audience. They do it because they love us. They want to create a living, vibrating, shimmering, undulating creature of sound that envelops, liquefies, and merges us with them and all of us with each other. It suspended all in a loving and crushing embrace as the entire building throbbed and shook until the band crashed perfectly back into the end of the song.
I’m not exaggerating or kidding when I tell you that every hair on my arms was blown back by the volume. I could feel the molecules of air pounding at me from the amps and PA. They pushed back my face. They held open my eyes, despite the brightly flashing lights aimed directly at me. Experiencing the noise, light, and heat MBV gave off last night was the closest I’ll ever willingly come to being strapped inside a rocket engine as it blasts off. And it was beautiful.
Thanks, Gigotron! What an incredible experience it was, and I owe it to you!
Thanks for the great review, Tim! Stay tuned for more Gig Giveaways coming soon. Watch for the Golden G.
